I’ve been lately loving the seasonal transition and how I can experiment with different silhouettes and styles. I was going through my archives and I found pictures from one of my shoots that never went live here. I thought why not post it now, as the style is perfect for this weather. I’m talking about fit and flare dresses. They are also called A-line dresses and compliment usually all body types.
The best part about a fit and flare dress or a skirt is how it gives an illusion of an hourglass figure, something that most of us women dream about. No matter, what your body type is, a fit and flare will make you look like that goddess with the perfect body. Even if you have wide hips and thighs , wearing a fit and flare dress or a skirt makes the lower part of your body look just like a part of the outfit. Doesn’t that sound like a magical outfit! Well, it is indeed and getting the right type of a fit and flare dress/skirt is what you need to do. Here is the look, I’ve created with this beautiful dress I picked up from. store in Lavelle Road.
Dress: Crisp, Bangalore
Sandals: Steve Madden
I prefer vintage looking flared dresses that has a structure and princess-cut flare to it as they make you look elegant and chic. They are perfect for a date night or even to a friend’s wedding. If you are looking for something in the same style, but as an office wear, less flared out and slightly narrow towards the knees should be your pick. You can accentuate the look further, by adding a cropped jacket or a cardigan with scrappy sandals or pumps.

This is going to be the final post from my #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge series with Gillette Venus and if you haven’t read the previous posts where I busted some common shaving myths you can check them out all by clicking here, here, here andhere 😀
When I took up this challenge almost 4 weeks back, I really didn’t expect that I’m going to take up shaving so seriously and never look back to bothering about salon appointments. Today, I’ll be sharing some easy ways of shaving, tips and tricks to shave and why I feel shaving is a better option for hair removal in this post. I’m sure most of you will be convinced to take up shaving by the end of this post (No harm in being optimistic right :P)
Want hassle-free shaving? Learn how..
Scrub-a-dub-dub: Yessss! That’s the magical phrase to remember before you shave. Use a good body scrub and massage it gently onto the areas that needs to be shaved like legs, underarms or arms. This helps in removing those stubborn ingrown hairs from the hair follicles and gives you a cleaner shave.
Quality matters: Don’t just go get a razor that is just lying in your father’s, brother’s or your partner’s cupboard and use them for a shave. Women have various curves and also different hair texture and men’s razor is not meant for that. A good razor like the Gillette Venus razor that has been specifically made for women’s body is what you need for a trouble free shave.
Foam is the solution: A few years back, I didn’t know you need a prepping product before you start shaving, and unknowingly I used to just wet my skin and used to shave. This caused me serious bumps and cuts in future. Make sure you don’t do this. Use a good quality shaving gel which make the skin ready for the shaving process and also help the razor to glide smoothly.
Pamper the skin with Moisturizer: The skin needs more moisture than usual after a shave as the top layer has been stripped off the natural oils along with the dead skin and hair. Thus soon after you shave, make sure to apply a good and heavy moisturizer preferably something that has ingredients like cocoa butter or shea butter.
Some useful tips if you are a newbie:
Always try to shave during your bath. The skin needs enough hydration to have a smooth shaving experience and while you are in the shower, the skin is adequately hydrated and hence you can have a much better result.
Make sure that the washroom or wherever you plan to shave is a well lit area to make sure no area is left behind. You don’t want a patch of hair left behind when you go out in your pretty dress.
Try to go against the hair growth to get a much closer shave. This helps in removing the hair in a much more precise manner.
In case you don’t own a shaving gel, try a good conditioner that’s not too harsh on your skin. Or you can easily a get the Gillette satin care online which is also very affordable.
Always change the razor blades after a few uses or when you feel it’s not doing the job well. Being stingy will only give you troubles later.
Also, a few of you asked me why not go for other hair removals methods like waxing, epilating or hair removal creams. Well, waxing is a tedious and time-taking job and you need to wait for the hair to grow a certain length to get it waxed. Epilating is damn painful and if you have sensitive skin, it can even give you rashes. Hair removal creams were the first ever method I used years back, but the horrible smell of it always gave me headaches. Plus, the chemicals used in them can be very very bad to your skin and can cause serious issues.
Shaving on the other hand, has no chemicals involved in it and doesn’t cause any kind of discomfort or pain to you and is super easy to do at home. I have been definitely loving the whole shaving process this summer and going to continue with it for a long long time.
If you are finally convinced to start shaving or still have your doubts, make sure to comment all about it down in the comments section and I would love to help you with it.You can also check the Gillette App to know shaving.
Today was a super busy day with 3 back to back blog shoots for me and with the scorching heat Bangalore has been experiencing this year, even getting up early morning didn’t really help much in not melting my makeup away. So coming back to today’s post, if you are regular reader here, you’ll know 4 weeks back, I had taken up the #SubscribeToSmooth challenge with Gillette Venus and here is a quick update on how my shaving experience has been so far.
The journey has been super easy and convenient so far and to be honest I had my doubts before i started using Gillette Venus razor. I use to believe that waxing was the sole solution to having smooth legs and arms in an affordable but Gillette Venus proved me wrong. Now I can wear skirts and shorts and everything that I want without worrying waiting for the hair to grow the right length and then go for waxing. Life has never been so simple (If you are a girl, you’ll know what i mean :D)
I have totally converted to a shaving person and you know why? Here are my top 5 reasons:
Saves me so much time especially during sudden plans or events.
Made my skin less bumpy and can see a slight reduction in ingrown hair.
I’ve started exfoliating my skin regularly in the process of a smoother shaving process.
The Gillette Satin care Shaving gel makes my skin soft and moisturized.
The awesome technology used to make the Razors helps me avoid any sorts of cuts and makes the shaving process super simple.
I have forgotten how it feels to a waxing done and I’m so glad I took up this challenge because it saves time and obviously money that you usually spend every month on your salon trips. I love this shaving journey so far and all you ladies and girls who think shaving gives you bad skin or makes your skin dark, you need read all my previous posts on how I busted some of the common shaving myths here, here and here.

Till then keep dropping your questions about shaving in the comments section below and I’ll be glad to help you with all what you need to know if you are a beginner or maybe think shaving isn’t the right kind of thing for you.
In the #SubscribeToSmooth challenge series, here is my 2nd week update and how shaving with Gillette Venus razor has helped me bust another very common myth, that is: “Does Shaving leads to skin discoloration and change in hair texture”. Well if you already haven’t read my previous two posts click here and here.
To be honest, i was one of those girls who used to think this and stopped using razors. But after attending the session with Dr. Rashmi Shetty and using the Gillette Venus razor myself, I realized that’s the most ridiculous thing to even think about. Let’s talk point by point…
Hair color will never become darker after shaving. The color of your hair is always determined by your genes and hormones and definitely not the razor you use. So that’s one thing to not worry about if you are keeping yourselves away from shaving.
After shaving, once the hair starts growing, you feel the prickliness as the hair is still in it growing stage and it’s been cut of from the top and not the entire roots like waxing. Wait for 2-3 days for it to grow and make sure to be in your loose and comfy clothes as it might be a bit uncomfortable if you wear body hugging clothes. Let the skin breathe well during this time.
The color of your skin is never going to get darker if you shave. Infact shaving helps you remove the top layer of dead skin making it more softer that before. As mentioned in the previous post from this series, the key to a smooth shaved skin is good exfoliation before shaving, a good shaving gel or foam and an even better moisturization post shaving.
Now that, we have talked about this myth and how there’s absolutely no truth in it, let me tell you how I feel about shaving post 2 weeks of using the Gillette Venus razor along with the Shaving foam. The shaving foam from Gillette Satin care has definitely played a vital role in changing my perception about shaving. I never realized how important a shaving foam can be and how much difference it can do to your shaving game.
I use a coffee scrub from Mr. Bean(PS: I love this baby) before I apply the Gillette satin care shaving foam and a bath and body works moisturizer for a good hydrated and moisturized skin. And yes, all of this is done when I’m in my shower because that’s the best time to shave for your body is well hydrated. Well, I’m absolutely loving this challenge and you need to stay tuned to this space to know more about the shaving myths and how I busted them.
If you have any kind of questions regarding shaving, feel free to ask me here or checkout the Gillette Venus app and also do share your shaving experience in the comments section below.
Last week I had posted about my Gillette Venus Event and how I took up the 30 day #SubscribeToSmooth challenge with them. I’ve been learning a lot of new things in this process about shaving and today I am going to talk about one very common myth that most of us have about shaving, that is,
Myth 1: “Shaving leads to dry and flaky skin”:
So here’s what I learnt from Dr. Rashmi Shetty at the event: Shaving correctly makes sure that the top layer of your dead skin is removed smoothly which in turn makes the skin smoother as the days proceed. The only thing one needs to keep in mind is to not shave too close to the skin or putting too much pressure on the razor as this would only lead to cuts and bruises which in turns makes your skin dark and patchy.
Few years back when I tried shaving, I used to get the most horrible itchiness all due to the dryness and flakiness of the skin. When I got to know recently that I was not giving the adequate moisture that my skin needed, I knew I was doing something wrong. But ladies, all you have to do is use the right products and you will never look back to booking appointments at the salon. Ever since I started using the kit I received at the event, which has the Gillette Satin Care Gel, I feel that I’m no more scared or worried about harming my skin. You may ask why this sudden change of mind? Well, the formula of the shaving gel makes the skin feel moisturized and soft which was not the case in the past when I didn’t care much about what products I was using to shave.
Girls, the process is very simple, all you need to do is shave when you are taking a shower as this makes sure the skin is damp enough for the process. Apply a good shaving foam all over the skin which needs to be shaved and then use a good quality sharp razor that can remove the hair in one stroke instead of going over one part again and again to avoid any cuts. Make sure to moisturize your skin well after you are done.
My verdict: Shaving definitely does not make the skin dry and flaky if you take care of the basic points:
A good shaving foam gel/cream as it softens the hair follicles
A good quality razor meant for women
Moisturize generously (Remember even after waxing, the lady at the salon does apply a moisturizer)
So this was my first week update about the #SubscribeToSmooth challenge and I am truly enjoying the shaving experience. Make sure to post your shaving queries or any tips that you have for me and the others in the comments section below and I’ll be happy to answer to you all.

Those of you who follow me on my social media would know that last week I got a chance to attend the Gillette Venus “Subscribe to Smooth” Event at the Oberoi, Bangalore. The meetup was addressed by the renowned aesthetic physician Dr. Rashmi Shetty who also can be seen on the popular YouTube channel GLAMRS and kannada film industry’s popular actress Radhika Pandit who gave us their tricks and tips about how to shave and also broke some of the common myths about shaving.
For those of you who do not know about Gillete Venus, here are a few facts:
The first women’s razor was actually a men’s razor made in Pink color. Hahah! We surely have evolved and with the new Gillette Venus razor, women can shave comfortable due to the extremely well contoured soft grip handle.
The razors also have a strip made with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E which makes sure to keep the skin smooth and moisturised.
The results are best achieved with the Gillette shaving gel foam which keeps the skin radiant and soft.
During the talk, Radhika explained how shaving has helped her in her busy schedule to maintain a smooth skin and always camera ready and believes that women just need to know the right technique of shaving to get an absolute best result. She says that one can carry the razor while travelling conveniently instead of looking out for salons and booking appointments and waiting for the hair to grow back to a certain length.
The best part was when Dr Rashmi Shetty clarified all our doubts about how shaving can be super convenient for all of us, if done the correct way with pre and post care of the skin. Some of the myths she debunked were the following:
Hair does not grow darker, coarser or faster after shaving. The hair growth depends on the hormones and genes of an individual.
Skin does not become dark post shaving. The reason is more on the technique and one should make sure to use a good razor and avoid any cuts or bruises which in turns can cause marks on the skin.
Ingrown hair is due to shaving. One needs to exfoliate the skin well before and after shaving to make sure all the hair follicles are open and are easily removed.
There were many other such myths we all had in our head and got a chance to have a on on one chat with Dr. Rashmi who gave us some really good suggestions. I used to shave years back but due to horrible itchiness, I stopped shaving and took up waxing instead. When asked about the “itchiness” issue, Dr. Rashmi mentioned, that itchiness is due to the skin being dry and one needs to use a good cream moisturiser to make sure that the skin is not dry and flaky especially after a shave.
By the end of the session it was very clear that an exfoliated and moisturised skin can give you the most awesome shaving experience and with Gillette Venus Razor you can achieve all that in a jiffy. The event was definitely an eye opener for all of us and we got to learn a lot of new facts about shaving. We were then treated with loads of photographs and then my favorite, yummy food.
I have decided to start shaving again since I go for events on a regular basis and summers here already, I hate to wear pants or anything clinging to my legs. Waiting for the hair to grow back and then go for waxing isn’t a great idea and with me taking up the #SubscribeToSmooth Challenge, it would definitely be a great way to let you guys know more about the myths that I got to break with this challenge in my upcoming posts from this series.
With the Gillette Venus Kit, everything is super easy as it has a razor, extra cartridges and the oh so awesome shaving foam gel which smells divine.
