Last week I had posted about my Gillette Venus Event and how I took up the 30 day #SubscribeToSmooth challenge with them. I’ve been learning a lot of new things in this process about shaving and today I am going to talk about one very common myth that most of us have about shaving, that is,
Myth 1: “Shaving leads to dry and flaky skin”:
So here’s what I learnt from Dr. Rashmi Shetty at the event: Shaving correctly makes sure that the top layer of your dead skin is removed smoothly which in turn makes the skin smoother as the days proceed. The only thing one needs to keep in mind is to not shave too close to the skin or putting too much pressure on the razor as this would only lead to cuts and bruises which in turns makes your skin dark and patchy.
Few years back when I tried shaving, I used to get the most horrible itchiness all due to the dryness and flakiness of the skin. When I got to know recently that I was not giving the adequate moisture that my skin needed, I knew I was doing something wrong. But ladies, all you have to do is use the right products and you will never look back to booking appointments at the salon. Ever since I started using the kit I received at the event, which has the Gillette Satin Care Gel, I feel that I’m no more scared or worried about harming my skin. You may ask why this sudden change of mind? Well, the formula of the shaving gel makes the skin feel moisturized and soft which was not the case in the past when I didn’t care much about what products I was using to shave.
Girls, the process is very simple, all you need to do is shave when you are taking a shower as this makes sure the skin is damp enough for the process. Apply a good shaving foam all over the skin which needs to be shaved and then use a good quality sharp razor that can remove the hair in one stroke instead of going over one part again and again to avoid any cuts. Make sure to moisturize your skin well after you are done.
My verdict: Shaving definitely does not make the skin dry and flaky if you take care of the basic points:
- A good shaving foam gel/cream as it softens the hair follicles
- A good quality razor meant for women
- Moisturize generously (Remember even after waxing, the lady at the salon does apply a moisturizer)
So this was my first week update about the #SubscribeToSmooth challenge and I am truly enjoying the shaving experience. Make sure to post your shaving queries or any tips that you have for me and the others in the comments section below and I’ll be happy to answer to you all.
Till then stay awesome 😀
